October 12, 2025 Finally got rain early Sept, which helped the 3rd grass and mix tremendously! Still won't have a 4th on grass, but I do have NICE 3rd so call me to stock up for winter. Also finishing up on 4TH Alfalfa. And in the Barn I do still have some choices of 1st and 2nd cuts Grass, Alfalfa or mix for $9.50 Small amount of 3x3 1st and 3rd grass or mix and 1st and 2nd Alfalfa.
August 19 Extremely dry hot conditions all summer have created a VERY tough situation. 2nd cut yields are way down, and irrigation water has been low for the last month, and as of Aug 10, water is totally gone. I am relying on my irrigation wells which are costly to run and don't provide an adequate supply. I will not get much if any of a 4th and 3rd will be very light. Because of all this, prices are in flux. I suggest, whoever you get hay from, that you buy sooner than later. The supply wont improve and prices won't decrease.
Aug 1, 2024 Its been a tough season so far. Lots of rain early on, then no rain and extreme heat since mid June, which has taken its toll on 2nd cut yields, and also delayed 3rd cut, which will probably cause there to not be much of a 4th, if any. Prices can change, but I currently have: 1st cut Orchard Brome Grass, Horse Quality in Barn for $9 per bale that got a light rain, but baled dry so NO mold, and the light bleaching makes it LOW Sugar and still Good horse hay. Also NO RAIN 1st cut Grass for $10
2nd cut: Prices are high as yields are low, BUT I have cheaper 1st and its a better choice for many horses!
Alfalfa, Green, Leafy, Good weight bales, Supreme Quality for $10 Mix- Grass w/around 10% Alfalfa, Good to Supreme Quality for $11-13 Straight grass to be baled August 3rd. It will be around $12-13
3rd cut grass may not be as good as normal, as the heat and dryness of the summer is very hard on grass. 3rd cut alfalfa is looking good!
May 27, 2024 Just baled Orchard Brome Grass w/around 10% Alfalfa. Cut Early so tender and less stem than some 1st cuts. Extremely Nice, Quality Hay!!! Also have Straight Alfalfa and Grass cut. Hope to bale in a week. SMALLS and 3x3 big bales. Prices can and will change as there are many variables, but currently $9-9.50. Also usually have some deals on not quite perfect hay as well.
2nd cut won't be till early July. Keep in mind, the 1st is Nice and LESS pricy than later cutting. Vets will tell you, 1ST cut is actually the best choice for Most horses, even though owners like the looks of later cuts.
2023 - Unprecedented rain is causing a delay , but starting to bale today, June 23. Some will be rained on, but still Horse Quality, and also have more to cut and bale, hopefully w/no rain.
May 23, 2021 Just cut Orchard Brome Grass hay mixed w/around 15% Alfalfa and hope to bale in 5 days. Hay was not quite ready, so I didn't cut a lot, but what I did cut is Very young, tender and FINE Stem. Cutting early makes Great hay, but yields are sacrificed so this hay will be pricier now than hay baled in a week or 2.
I will bale smalls and some 3x3x8 big bales. Price on this hay is not certain till baled, but maybe around $8.50 per small square bale. Prices can change as inventory changes and of course weather. Depending on weather, I will probably cut STRIAGHT Orchard Brome grass in a few days. Call or email is fine, 9703711352
July 9, 2020 Beautiful 2ND cut in barn and more to bale. Grass Alfalfa and mix around 70%grass. Yields very low with the past month of low rain/ HIGH Heat. On the positive side, its GREAT Quality! Prices also up from 1st because of drought, so thanks to my customers who stocked up on cheaper 1st! Prices can change as many factors, water, weather, yields change, but are currently around $9-9.75, and limited amounts until I get my many long time repeat customers taken care of.
I do still have some 1st cut 3x3 in barn of grass or alfalfa and some 2nd cut soon. 9703711352
June 27, 2020
We baled some Exceptional Alfalfa! Its 1st cut, but was very small when cut, so it looks just like 3rd!! Very fine stem, Leafy, Soft and GREEN! Heavier than normal bales, $8.25-8.75 as currently alfalfa supply is way down. Again, this alf looks as nice as 3rd cut!
I also still have a very small amount of straight grass and Mix hay in BARN, As well as 3x3's of Grass or Alfalfa, $88-105 per bale. The alf is 850lbs and grass is 725lbs.
I expect to cut 2ND cut Grass and Alf/Grass mix soon, HOPE TO HAVE IT BALED BEFORE MID JULY!! It looks great. Maybe $8-8.75 range, depending on yield and water outlook?
Keep an eye on the weather as were getting into drought conditions if rain pattern does not change. Hay yields have already been low on 1st cut, and if heat takes its toll, hay prices may climb.

Just baled 1st cut Orchard Brome grass and Alfalfa Grass mix. Cut early so very HIGH Quality, fine stem! Currently $7-7.75, but my prices should go down as I get more hay up. I'm already seeing some high prices on 2020 hay. I grown and produce a lot of Excellent hay, no middle man or broker, and plan on keeping prices low. Last spring, when others were over $9, I was around $7 for Superior Quality hay! Best to call me for most current prices and info, 9703711352
Also keep in mind, My 1st cut makes great feed for horses. While my 2nd/3rd is SUPER Soft and Leafy, its higher priced. 1st, while having more stem, is often the Better choice for many horses. Ask any intelligent vet.
3/24/2020 Last May/ June, I had Excellent Orchard brome grass or mix at $6-7, while others were selling hay above $9. Don't be like the others, overpaying for hay! Be an informed hay buyer!
My hay is grown on my farms, SE of Greeley, and customers often tell me, my hay is the Highest Quality around. We take a lot of time putting up quality hay. Feel free to call me about your upcoming Alfalfa, Grass or Mix needs, in Smalls, 3x3's, and some 21 bale bundles. Alan 9703711352
August 7, 2019 Hope to start 3RD cutting hay in a week or so! I still have Very nice 2nd cut Grass mixed w/25% alfalfa for $8.50. Great Quality and cheaper than other sellers. I also have Alfalfa 2nd cut for $7.75-8.75 and Straight grass in barn, $8.25-9.25. All hay is Good to Supreme Quality and 3rd will be as good or Better, call w/questions, thanks. 9703711352
July 9, 2019
Just started cutting 2nd cut Orchard Brome Grass and also cut a mix of Alfalfa and Grass. Looks very nice, hope to bale 7/12/19. Will be cutting and bailing most of July as i have 400 acres.
Prices seem high so for on 1st cut, but at $7.50-8.50, I am lower than other producers, even though I can GUARANTEE my hay is equal or BETTER than most hay. Not sure what prices will be on the 2nd cut, i will know more when baled.
I also have very nice 3x3 big bales in my barn, $80-90 per bale and some $60 outside.
Call as i dont update this site as often as i would like because just too busy bailing hay.
June 9, 2019
Just baled fresh new orchard brome grass and Alfalfa Grass mix(mostly grass). Several choices. Lots with NO Rain, and some w/rain but still VERY good Hay, $6-8.50 at BARN in La Salle or Delivery avail. Prices subject to charge as inventory and weather change. Call for exact quotes, Thanks.
Also have 3x3x8 big bales of grass or alfalfa or Mix, $60-90, Barn stored or outside.
Don't let the fear of rained on hay break your pocket book. Rained on hay still makes good feed if dried and baled right like I do. I have several rakes that fluff that hay and dry it out fast, and is much cheaper!!
2ND CUT Alfalfa by mid july. Grass too. Feel free to call or email me about your animals hay requirements! Alan Oster, 970 371 1352 or [email protected]
